The Chicago DCA hosts the Strange Tree Group

Why hello friends and such,

Just a quick note to update you on what we're up to! It is a BUSY time for everyone in the strange tree camp. After our Salon with the Plagiarists we
gracefully waltzed into the DCA studio theater for the month of September to workshop a new Emily Schwartz piece entitled 'The Spirit Play'. You can check out our progress with wonderful blogs by the playwright and ensemble on the DCA's website: http://www.dcatheater.org/blog/category/incubator_series_strange_tree_group/

Currently we're right in the middle of our DCA experience and have been very fortunate to go from nothing to something in a manner of weeks. The Spirit Play is not a pre-written script, but a workshop in every sense of the word. We sit down each night and we get to work. Emily takes care of the dialogue, but the team gathers each evening to read and re-read new material and discuss plot lines and characters. It's definitely a creation of a hive mind and that's very exciting. On the 27th we're going to be hosting an open read of the newly crafted portions of the script at 7:30 at the DCA studio theater. Come one come all and have a hand in developing this completely new and exciting work!

We were also lucky enough recently to have a photo shoot with Tyler Core for this fall's upcoming show THE WAR PLAYS which was written by Emily and will be directed by Kate Nawrocki. His photographs are beautiful and he's a heck of a dancer. We've got our kick off war plays event on Sunday the 19th! All production personal, cast and crew will be on site to do an initial read of the script, see design mock ups and meet and greet with one another.

During all of this, we're preparing for our big debut at Steppenwolf's GARAGE REP! (Wipes brow) Needless to say, it's a big big year. Thank you for coming along for the ride!
